Under topical anesthesia and block anesthesia the patient underwent excision of a chalazion of the left lower eyelid, which was accomplished without complications. After application of Cortisporin ointment and pressure patch, the patient was awakened and transferred out of the operating room. He tolerated the procedure well.

The patient is a 29-year-old male who presents to the emergency room after having a piece of metal fly into his left eye yesterday. Since that time, he still continues to have the metal present. He denies any major vision disturbances, although he states that his vision is slightly more blurry than usual. He also complains of slight pain. After application of tetracaine, a 22-guage beveled needle was used to remove the foreign body from the left eye. An additional two drops of tetracaine were then applied. Immediately following the procedure he stated his symptoms were greatly improved.
