Question 1

The patient was taken to the operating room and given general anesthesia. Myringotomies were performed bilaterally in the anterior-superior quadrant of each tympanic membrane. The patient tolerated the procedure well and was discharged to the recovery area in stable condition.

Question 2

This four-year-old child was noted to have a hematoma formation in the left external ear. Because of his age and agitation it was decided to perform surgery under general anesthesia. His parents brought him in today for drainage of external left ear hematoma. During surgery, it was determined that drainage of the hematoma would be more extensive than previously thought. Thus, an extensive amount of time was spent in surgery-approximately 65 additional minutes.
