The physiological explanations establish a clear link between sexuality and maternalism where hormones and erotogenic pleasure exceed the investment that fathers make in the child. The sociological explanations examine the social constraints placed on the parents to care and provide for the child. The mother realizes the infant's needs are a priority and the father, usually able to make more money, takes on the breadwinner role.
