What would happen if the chorion failed to secrete human chorionic gonadotropin?
◦ The fetal elements of the placenta would fail to develop.
◦ The maternal elements of the placenta would fail to develop.
◦ The embryo would be spontaneously aborted.
◦ Neural tube formation would not occur, and the embryo would have no central nervous system.
