You are an infant care provider. You conduct an informal assessment of an infant in your center and note her lack of responsiveness to people and the environment. You are aware that she was a low birth weight infant. Based on ideas from the chapter, what would be a recommended classroom strategy to support this child's learning and development?
◦ Postpone efforts at stimulation until the infant's nervous system has more fully matured.
◦ Provide perceptual stimulation and physical play during naturally occurring alert states when these interactions are most effective.
◦ Guide the infant out of sleepy or on-looking states and into more alert states through perceptual stimulation and language.
◦ Engage in "super-intervention" with objects and auditory stimulation, and gradually reduce nap time.
