Answer 1

As ships get bigger, this will require port upgrades for both embarkation and disembarkation. Further, the possible loss of tax breaks are a concern and the need for safety upgrades will also add to costs. The construction of the larger ships anticipates that demand will materialize when those ships are delivered and this is always problematic.

Answer 2

While ecotourism destinations and activities are found in both developed and developing countries, students may be inclined to think only of isolated destinations in developing countries as ecotourism destinations. The chapter provides a variety of examples of both.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
