Answer 1

The airlines that owned the GDSs initially installed highly biased display screens. This practice was subsequently outlawed.

Answer 2

The industry has a leisure and business component but is heavily reliant on airport renters for its viability. Insofar as recessions constrain air travel, this hurts the rental car industry. Local market revenues are much less affected by the business cycle because that business mainly involves replacement cars.
