Government intervention became necessary because the airlines were biasing the screen displays of the GDSs. Thus, American Airlines would have made sure that SABRE more prominently displayed American flights within markets even if a competitor provided better service or connections.

As outlined in the chapter, an MOS model essentially shows a portfolio of business/bookings with different pricing points, or by distribution channels, etc. An MOS model is a more optimized one if it reflects more bookings from higher-rated business segments and/or sold through distribution channels with lower reservation costs.
