Rather than expand its own reservations capability as the airlines and hotels have done, the cruise industry has maintained its traditionally close relationship with travel agencies. Most cruise lines bookings still come through travel agencies. Cruise lines may have come to rely on travel agencies because travel agents can better explain the complexities and value of the product than the more impersonal distribution channels.
