Governments oppose mergers when the proposed combination obtains a market share that gives it inordinate or monopoly-like pricing power. Such power can be harmful to consumers if prices are raised above those that would be determined by competitive market forces.

Both Broadway in New York City and the West End area in London contain the largest concentration of theater attractions in the world in a relatively small area.
