Positive impacts include an increase in jobs, income, and tax revenues in Orlando and Las Vegas. Negative examples include the former Soviet Union where only a few were able to benefit from free international travel, higher incomes, and an improved quality of life.

A hub is a major city that is used to connect flyers coming from all directions to a beyond destination. The term arose from the example of a bicycle wheel with its many spokes emanating from its center.
