Answer 1

Such factors are too numerous to mention in this space but a good reading of Chapter 15 will provide a plethora of examples. Essentially, a destination is attractive when it provides a unique experience with satisfactory amenities and is reasonably priced. However, because tourists have different needs, one seeking adventure would not be part of group motorcoach tour and vice versa.

Answer 2

The effects of tourism on communities can be measured through indicators such as:

1. the ratio of tourists to locals; and 2. the percentage of locals who believe tourism has helped bring new services or infrastructure to their community. To measure the economic benefits of tourism, indicators include: 1. the number of tourism-related jobs; and 2. the volume of tourism-related revenues as a percentage of total revenues generated in the community. For further examples of sustainable tourism indicators and how these are measured see chart in chapter.
