In the process, the Knights were inclusive because they advocated organizing everyone working for wages. In contrast, the American Federation of Labor sought to organize only the skilled while accepting the capitalist system as a permanent fixture of American society. Better students will relate that its limited goals and more narrow focus allowed it to survive, while the Knights faded into oblivion.
