Answer 1

c

Answer 2

Rapid industrialization of the economy created a crisis in agriculture. The introduction of machinery, such as the reaper, produced higher crop yields, which drove down prices. Lower prices for farm commodities prompted farmers to produce more, which worsened the deflationary spiral facing agriculture. At first, through the Granges, farmers attempted to work through the political system by successfully lobbying for laws that regulated the prices that railroads could charge them to ship commodities. Good students will go further and describe the organization of the Greenback Party, which attempted to channel the frustration felt by farmers concerning the corruption of the two-party system. The Greenback Party organized itself around the politics of inflation, and although it ultimately failed, it did bring attention to the money question and farmers' problems, which laid the groundwork for the future independent political mobilization of farmers.
