Answer 1

a

Answer 2

Because romanticism emphasized the natural world, it was logical for the movement to gain strength in a nation with such varied and extensive natural environments as the United States. Students will want to look at the ideas of such transcendentalist thinkers as Emerson and Thoreau and judge how their ideas revealed aspects of the American character. Other examples might include James Fenimore Cooper's writings, which emphasized the frontier experience, or the Hudson River school, which celebrated the natural beauty of the American landscape.
