1. Abortion  Since the legalization of abortion in 1972, there has been a continuous battle between those who would allow a woman to control her own body and those who feel that life begins at conception.
2. Homosexual rights  Generally speaking, conservatives want to deny homosexuals the same rights as everyone else, while progressives feel that everyone should have the same rights.
3. Sexuality  In this realm conservatives are generally guided by principles they claim are derived from a Christian faith, while progressives point to the right to privacy.

The ideal answer should include three of the following:
1. Older people sometimes were better able to save money after 1965, and definitely had better access to healthcare with Medicare
2. Organized labor did poorly as union membership dropped, and the benefits negotiated by unions were not as good as they used to be.
3. Women increased their participation in the workforce. They did not get the largest piece of social legislation passed, the ERA, but did get Title IX passed.
4. Religious conservatives gained in power and played a large role in electing Ronald Reagan.
5. Blue-collar workers lost power and well-paid work as manufacturing and industrial jobs went overseas, replaced by a lower-paying service economy.
6. Educated suburbanites played a significant role in electing Reagan and were a large voting bloc.
