- get involved in the National Honor Society for psychology students
- develop contacts with groups for certain majors, such as a psychology club
- talk with community mental health agencies about openings for volunteers to paraprofessionals
- spend time conducting assessments, observing sessions, and engaging in telephone work
- get advice from one or more faculty mentors about deciding on career options and writing letters of intent
- get engaged in clinical research if possible and present at a psychology conference
- review information provided for students by APA
- above all, ask questions and get involved
- becoming a mental health professional involves gathering different types of experiences, speaking to different people, and taking varied courses
