The Big Smelly Cheese Company has realized that employees are only motivated if they are promised extrinsic rewards or if the supervisor is carefully watching over them. This made it difficult to keep employees motivated and it has not improved job performance. Therefore, the Mr. Stink, the owner of the company, has decided that they need to change their approach to motivation and focus more on autonomous motivation. Do you think this is a good idea? Use self-determination theory to explain what Mr. Stink needs to do and if it will work. Be sure to indicate what he will have to do if he wants his employees' motivation to be autonomous.
