- memory changes in people with dissociative disorders often involve compartmentalizatio n of personal material and failure to retrieve information
- trauma and dissociation are linked, but the causal relationship between the two remains unclear
- neurodevelopmental models of dissociative disorder concentrate on how young people fail to develop a unified sense of self in an abusive environment
- prevention of dissociative disorders has not received much research attention, but prevention of child maltreatment has and may be helpful in this regard
