 Universal prevention program
- Promotion of healthy lifestyle and healthy choices
- Harm reduction  responsible use of alcohol
- Use social institution (i.e., school) to change what may be social norms
- Collaborative efforts between agencies (school, medical community, mental health community, etc.)
 Targeted prevention program
- Identify high-risk students based on risk factors (age, gender, familial factors, peer group, ethnicity, neighborhood, presence of psychopathology, etc.)
- Provide supports in natural settings (i.e., schools) where positive peer pressure and modeling can be implemented
- Begin early and include families
