 Separation anxiety  separation is perceived as threatening
 Phobias  specific objects or events are perceived as threatening
 Generalized anxiety disorders  entire environment is threatening; child is always on the lookout for threats
 Panic disorders  reoccurrence of a panic attack is seen as threatening; perceives somatic symptoms as threatening
 Anxiety is the common factor while the source of the anxiety differs (internal, external)
