 Core characteristics  compromised functioning in two areas (inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity); child could have deficits in one or both of these areas
 Examples related to inattention  short attention span, inability to play a game or concentrate on an academic task, etc.
 Examples related to hyperactivity/impulsivity  always on the go, excessive motor activity, inability to sit still, fidgeting, excessive talking, intrusive interactions with others
 Could also comment on the fact that these behaviors are seen in many children, but children with ADHD must display these behaviors in multiple settings and the behaviors must contribute to some sort of impairment in development
