 AAIDD  deficits in intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior which occur early in development
 DSM-5  also identifies deficits in intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior
 AAIDD  more holistic perspective; identifies limitations but also emphasizes the possibility of adaption and highlights support needed for individual (intermittent, limited, extensive, or pervasive)
 DSM-V  emphasis more on deficits
 Examples should include descriptions of limitations in intellectual functioning, adaptive behavior, and support needed
