With regards to ethics in scientific biomedical research, changes have been proposed for the Declaration of Helsinki, which were spurred by the following developments:
 
  a) Increased research sponsored by for-profit organizations such as pharmaceutical companies
  b) Increased non-profit agency and government scrutiny regarding the clinical populations being proposed for investigation
  c) Less stringent guidelines on informed consent in order to increase the number of double-blind experimental designs
  d) Decreased globalization of research which limits cross-culture generalizability
