An analyst using a time-study approach:
◦ observes the worker at random times, categorizing what he or she is doing at that time.
◦ should use all observations in determining the standard, regardless of how irregular they might be, to be fair to the worker.
◦ divides the total task into micro-motions such as "reach" and "grasp" and then times the worker on each one.
◦ must rate the performance of the worker on each element of the total task.
