The general adaptation syndrome is divided into three stages as follows:
 
  a) Alarm- resistance- exhaustion.
  b) Stress- coping- recovery vs. disease.
  c) Autonomic reactivity- relaxation- adaptation.
  d) Stressor- arousal- anxiety.
