Answer to Question 1

Infants born from January through March, in urban, but not rural, areas have been found in some studies to have a higher risk of developing schizophrenia. One possible explanation is the increased prevalence of influenza and other viral diseases during the winter and spring. Some studies have found that if the mother had influenza while pregnant, the child born of that pregnancy had an increased risk for schizophrenia.
