The role of nature vs. nurture in intelligence has been a strongly debated topic over time. The conceptualization of intelligence as a construct has changed over time. As opposed to Wechsler's early conceptualization as cognitive functioning, current tests recognize and assess various subtleties and components of intelligence. The dimensions of sex, socioeconomic status, and racial, ethnic, and cultural background as factors in standardization have led to charges that IQ tests are unfair. Finally, they do not and cannot reflect all kinds of intelligence.
