Ronan is traveling with his mother to spend the summer in a remote village where his mother will be studying archeology. Ronan knows there will be no other children to play with and that his mother will be working long hours. While there, Ronan happens upon a stray rabbit, names it "Thomas," and spends his days exploring the village with Thomas, who he carries in a small, protective cage Ronan built.
