Explain why the following reaction will not produce an alcohol as product.



◦ NaOH is not a sufficiently strong base to initiate the reaction.
◦ Steric hindrance at the tertiary halide prevents hydroxide from acting as a nucleophile in an SN2 reaction.
◦ C l is not a good leaving group and therefore cannot be replaced by hydroxide.
◦ Tertiary halides are not reactive.
◦ The primary methyl group is not sufficiently reactive to allow the reaction to begin.
