You are called to the home of a 74-year-old male patient. The caller reported that her father hasn't been well for several days and is now complaining of chest pain. Once you arrive, the man refuses to be transported but does allow you to perform an assessment. His vital signs are as follows: blood pressure 90/58; pulse 120; respirations 24 and shallow. How would you best handle this situation?
◦ Have him sign a refusal of care waiver and tell him to call back if he changes his mind.
◦ Take the time to do a thorough assessment and explain the implications of not receiving emergency treatment.
◦ Perform a thorough assessment and tell him to call back if he changes his mind.
◦ Take your time on scene. If he loses consciousness, you can transport under the rule of implied consent.
