Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is being diagnosed with much greater frequency in recent years, with some studies suggesting unbelievably high prevalence rates. Most cases of DID are diagnosed by only a handful of clinicians, and the number of personalities claimed to exist has grown rapidly. Dissociative disorders are rarely diagnosed outside of the U.S. and Canada.
