Answer to Question 1

Looking at the primary self-report instruments used to measure mindfulness, Baer, Smith, Hopkins, Krietemeyer, and Toney (2006) found that three factors emerged when using the statistical procedure called a factor analysis (see Chapter 6) that best predicted psychological symptoms. These are (1) act with awareness, (2) nonjudge, and (3) nonreact.

The two primary meditational strategies most heavily researched by Western practitioners and investigators are mantra meditation and mindfulness meditation.
