Early investigators also showed other physiological indicators of relaxation such as lowered blood lactate levels indicating reduced skeletal muscle metabolism (Wallace et al., 1971), higher skin resistance indicating less anxiety (Wallace, 1970), decreased heart rate (Wallace, 1970), and increased alpha wave activity (Wallace et al., 1971).
