Answer to Question 1

A

Answer to Question 2

There are a number of choices for minority group members when dealing with such challenges. LaFromboise, Coleman, and Gerton (1993) outline these choices as (1) assimilation- absorption into the dominant culture through severing ties with one's culture of origin, (2) acculturation- absorption into the dominant culture while maintaining an identity as a member of the minority culture, (3) alternation- modification of cultural behavior to fit the social context in a way similar to the bilingualism model, (4) multiculturalism- maintain a distinct identity as a member of two or more cultures, and (5) fusion- assimilate but bring a cultural identity that blends with other cultural identities to form a new stronger cohesive whole culture (i.e., melting pot theory).
