In 2008, approximately 2,500 HAV cases were reported to the CDC; however, the total number of HAV cases was probably closer to 22,000 . Approximately 4,000 cases of HBV were reported, while the total number was likely closer to 38,000 . Only 878 HCV cases were reported, although the total number of cases was probably closer to 18,000
