St. Paul and other founders of the religion condemned sexuality in a way found in neither Hebrew nor Greek thoughtnor anywhere in the teachings of Jesus. All sex outside of marriage was considered sinful. Chastity was a virtue, and celibacy, or abstaining from sexual intercourse, was a sign of holiness (Bergmann, 1987). The result was that the average Christian associated the pleasure of sexuality with guilt (stark, 1996).
