Answer to Question 1

D

Answer to Question 2

a . Self-enhancement/social acceptance
i. People try to present themselves in ways that are favorable to their audience
ii. They may engage in some self-enhancing presentations, but will try to make these plausible
iii. In presenting the self in the most positive light possible, one is most likely to gain social acceptance.
b. Claiming an identity
i. People try to claim identities, but these claims typically require social verification (e.g., you may think you are a great dancer, but in the end if no one agrees, you probably aren't).
ii. Self-presentation helps a person garner the verification they need to claim an identity. If you see yourself as a great dancer, you might be more likely to volunteer to lead a dance class or teach a friend to dance, because these activities and presentations result in others seeing you as an expert in dance, or as a good dancer.
