Answer to Question 1

 Possible Response Points:
The model concerns how people process information (in particular persuasive messages)
According to the model, people process information via one of two different routesthe central route or the peripheral route
The central route entails systematic or conscious processing. People are paying attention to, and carefully deliberating upon, the message at hand. Necessary for central route processing are (a) the ability to carefully process the information that is being presented and (b) the motivation to do so. People who are high in need for cognition, or moderately high in intelligence, tend to be relatively prone to engage in central processing. When attitudes are changed via the central route, the change is relatively strong and durable.
The peripheral route entails heuristic or nonconscious processing, and is the default mode for processing communications. In this case people are paying attention to surface cues such as whether or not the communicator appears to be an authority. When attitudes are changed via this route, the change is relatively weak and temporary.
