Answer to Question 1

a . Possible Response Points:
i. One strategy for overcoming stereotypes and prejudice is to consciously make an effort to override them. This requires that a person be aware of the stereotype and make an effort to not act on it.
ii. Increased contact with outgroup members is another strategy for reducing prejudice and overcoming stereotypes. Intergroup contact at work, even if vicarious, can serve to reduce prejudice.
iii. Prejudice can also be reduced by creating superordinate goals that unite members from two disparate social categories into pursuit of a common goal.
iv. Finally, constructing tasks so that group members from minority or stigmatized groups have equal information/skill to contribute to task completion as any other group member is a tool for reducing prejudice. This has been employed successfully in education through the jigsaw classroom, but structuring other tasks outside of that venue should theoretically benefit from that task structure.
