Answer to Question 1

F

Answer to Question 2

a . Possible Response Points:
i. The emotional feelings of the rejected person alternate between highs of hope and excitement to lows of insecure despair. They experience a blow to their self-esteem, and question if they did something to make the other person not love them. They may try to find ways to bolster their esteem, and the best way is to move on and find someone else. They often look back on the episode of rejection as bittersweet, mixing the exciting passion they felt with the intense despair they felt at the time.
ii. The person doing the rejecting in such a situation is most likely to experience guilt. It goes against the grain of human nature to end relationships, even when it is not a relationship one desires. In an effort to avoid hurting the other person, the individual in this situation may not clearly convey the rejection, which can lead the other, more hopeful person, to read something into the relationship that is not there. When the rejecter in this situation looks back on the episode later, they generally do not view it as bittersweet, but just wish the whole thing had never happened. They do not have any positive feelings about the event.
