Erica and Amanda are a lesbian couple with three adult children and a civil union. Amanda was primarily a stay-at-home mother, but worked part-time for a few years. Now that their children have finished college, they would like to retire.
 
  Erica has a high income career and will receive a good pension and social security. What can be expected in their retirement? a) If Erica dies first, Amanda might not get Erica's pension and will not get her Social Security.
   b) Erica will receive her Social Security and Amanda will get either her Social Security or half of Amanda's, whichever is higher.
