Answer to Question 1

A sequential lineup involves seeing each person individually and making a judgment for each person whether he or she is the suspect or not. In a simultaneous lineup, people are to make a judgment about the group as a whole by selecting from the group the person they recognize as the suspect. Research shows that the simultaneous lineup may result in more false identifications, because people assume that the suspect is present and choose the person that looks the most like the suspect rather than comparing each person individually to their memory of the suspect.

Answer to Question 2

Lionel may know he is lonely but be unsure why that is the case. He may benefit from acquiring new and more appropriate social skills. This includes improving his social perception and his impression management. He might have someone videotape him interacting and then watch the video to learn more about how he comes across to others. He may not realize that he is turning others off by some of his behaviors. He might be surprised to know that his requests sound like orders, or that he interrupts people frequently. Cognitive therapy in which he is encouraged to think differently about others may also allow him to develop more realistic expectations about others and social interactions. For example, he may not be aware that other people are very sensitive to criticism.
