Answer to Question 1

Narcissism is a condition in which one holds extremely positive, and often unjustified, views of himself or herself. The word itself comes from the ancient Greek myth of Narcissus, a handsome man who was literally in love with himself and, upon seeing his own reflection in a pool, tried to embrace it and drowned. Narcissism often leads people to be aggressive when others dare to question their overblown views of themselves. In fact, people with narcissism can experience narcissistic rage, in which they seek revenge against these doubters while simultaneously feeling threatened.

Answer to Question 2

Both condescension and teasing are forms of provocation. Condescension involves expressions of arrogance or disdain on the part of others, and evidence suggestions that condescension is very powerful in pushing those receiving this provocation toward aggression. Teasing is another form of provocation. Teasing involves annoying statements that call attention to an individual's flaws and imperfections but can be, at the same time, playful in nature. Teasing can be mild, humorous remarks; nicknames; or comments that are truly designed to hurt. Research indicates that the more individuals attribute teasing to hostile motives, the more likely they are to respond aggressively.
