Answer to Question 1

Old-fashioned racism involved a person of one group having blatant feelings of superiority when comparing himself or herself to another group. This type of racism has mostly been replaced by modern racism, which is a subtler form of racism.

Answer to Question 2

Tokenism occurs when only a few members of a previously excluded group are admitted to the group they were excluded from. Research has confirmed that tokenism can be a highly effective strategy for deterring collective protest in disadvantaged groups. For example, if a minority group is protesting that it has been excluded from a certain group (e.g., upper management at a company), then allowing even a small percentage of this group's members into the target group can deter collective resistance.
