First generation Asian-American immigrants children tend to change and become
Americanized more rapidly than their elders, and often become a driving force for
changing their family's structure. Pyke found that Asian American children often try to
teach their parents how to express affection, and change the organization and use of
authority within the family. Communication patterns are changed, patterns for expression
of affection and intimacy, and the roles of family members change accordingly.
