Answer to Question 1

The Joint Commission requires that patients be identified with at least two unique identifiers such as name and date of birth, or name and patient ID number. It may not be the room number.

Answer to Question 2

The nurse should refer to a reputable drug reference resource to validate the safety of ordered and transcribed medications.
