The most current evidence suggests that stress exerts mainly negative effects on tasks performance. The greater the stress people encounter on the job, the more adversely affected their job performance tends to be. Stress can also create desk rage, or the lashing out at others in response to stressful encounters on the job. Burnout is another side effect of organizational stress. Given these negative effects, stress has been called the silent killer creating some of the most serious and life-threatening ailments known to medical science.
