For many HIV-positive people, HAART has changed their condition from a terminal illness to a chronic, manageable disease. With HAART, the average life expectancy of people newly diagnosed with HIV has been steadily increasing. Recent projection models suggest that a 39-year-old entering HIV care can expect to live until age 63.
