Answer to Question 1

Answer: Some alcohol is metabolized in the stomach by alcohol dehydrogenase. Some is absorbed in the stomach. Food in the stomach slows down the absorption of alcohol. Most of the alcohol is absorbed in the small intestine. Most alcohol is metabolized in the liver. Alcohol that is not metabolized returns to the blood and circulates through the body, including the brain.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Courtney is a college student and a member of a sorority, both of which are in the highest groups of risk for alcohol abuse.
